The Organized Crime Directorate dismantled a ring allegedly involved in large-scale fraud, with subsidies from OPEKEPE, from 2018 to 2022.
In particular, a coordinated operation was carried out in Thessaloniki, Pella, Ioannina, Attica and Crete, where it led to the arrest of 37 people. In fact, most of them are not farmers or producers. The money they allegedly collected illegally is estimated at 5 million euros.
It is worth pointing out that the investigations of the Greek police authorities had started before there was an order from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. However, the two investigations eventually lead to the same persons.
The case has been referred to Justice and investigations are continuing, as the network of those involved seems to be larger.
In the meantime, thanks to the investigations of the Economic Crime Directorate, more than 1,000 people have been charged with illegal aid, amounting to 22 million euros.

The Ministry of Rural Development and Food is taking three more measures to support farmers.

For the third year, the “North Evia Pass” program is implemented. With a total budget of 1 million euros, it aims to financially support tourism in the areas of Northern Evia, which were affected by the fires in August 2021.
Citizens can submit their applications for the action, until Wednesday, October 29, 2025, through the vouchers.gov.gr platform, using TaxisNet codes. Alternatively, they can contact one of the 1,027 KEPs that exist throughout the country.
The program concerns two destinations: the Municipality of Istiaea – Edipsos and the Municipality of Mantoudi – Limni – Agia Anna, as well as two calendar phases: November 2025 and September – October – November 2026.
The beneficiaries amount to 5,566 and will issue an immaterial digital debit card of 150 euros each, in order to visit the aforementioned areas. They will be able to use the card until the last day of the selected phase, for accommodation, catering and local transport expenses.
The “North Evia Pass 2025” has no income criteria. Beneficiaries will be determined by lottery and the results will be posted on the program’s website.
