If a court ruling is followed and the student is acquitted, his status will come back, but if convicted, he will lose it permanently
Students arrested for criminal offenses at universities will immediately lose their student status for two years, without waiting for the university the decision of justice, said government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, referring to the relevant announcements by the Minister of Education.
Speaking to SKAI, Mr. Marinakis clarified that if a court ruling was followed and the student was acquitted, then his status would come back. However, if convicted, it will lose it permanently. Regarding the deterioration or destruction of a student property by a student, Mr. Marinakis made it clear that “you broke, you will pay and if you do not pay the fine immediately.” As he said, this is something that will be legislated immediately.
The government spokesman stressed that the consequences of universities will now be clearly described if they do not apply the law, saying that the sanctions would be equivalent to those of a hospital administrator. He explained that the security planning that universities must submit not only concerns issues of violence but also civil protection, for example fire extinguishers and escape exits.
For the University Police, he noted that those who were hired to staff it, do not sit down, working in other services and even due to their training are also involved in businesses in universities.
