Marinakis: Democracy protects demonstrations, not racism – fascists who say they don’t want Israelis because they are Israelis

Clear message against racism and in favor of the freedom of demonstrations sent the government spokesman Paul Marinakisspeaking today on a radio station.

Referring to the images from Palestine and demonstrations in favor of civilians, he stressed that democracy is guaranteing the right to peaceful expression, however, making it clear that “there is a red line” when protests are converted into racist attacks.

As he typically told Real FM, “the demonstrations are foreseen and guaranteed by our Constitution and our Republic, by the functioning of our Republic. There is no man who does not tighten his heart when he sees the pictures, Especially of children and civilians in Palestine And anywhere in the world. But here I will make two observations. One observation is that there is a red line where someone overcomes it and from a healthy demonstration turns it into a fascist, racist, aggressive energy against a human being, because it happens to have a specific origin, a specific religion, a nationality that cannot be tolerated in a rule of law such as Greece.

It’s another thing to say ” freedom in Palestine ” and another thing to say to a man because he comes from Israel and has a religion and is Jewish, that you are not desirable in a country.

People who make the second are fascists.

And continued, saying: ‘Unfortunately many of them are in the House as well And it is the other side of fascism, the other end of fascism, which we must deal with democratically with all our democratic weapons and all our might. Police have done as required by law and will continue to do so.

Unfortunate day was the day in Syros. It was a bad day, which I think was not the rule. The rule will be that which was done in Rhodes. The law must be applied. The law is above all. We will protect any demonstration as defined by the Constitution, but we will also protect every citizen who wants to come to the country, whatever his nationality, whatever his religion, and who do not understand it, will experience the effects of the law without exaggeration and without extremes. Let them make the decision, and above all, some Members who have to understand that they represent Greek citizens, our democratic regime, which has been able to withstand 51 years and is inconceivable- I refer to a statement by the new left-wing- to say to citizens. These in the Hellenic Republic cannot be tolerated. ”
