Makis Gagatsis: “The qualification for the 2026 World Cup is a debt to the history of the Greek National Team”

OR National team of Greece learned her opponents in his qualifiers World Cup 2026 and the president of EPO, Makis Gagatsis, commented on the draw and the effort of the “blue and white” to return to a major football tournament.

Makis Gagatsis spoke of a “debt in the history of the Greek National Team”, while at the same time expressing his trust in the players and the coach, after the draw for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Gagatsi’s statements

“The return of the national team to the final stages of international competitions is not just a competitive goal, but a debt to the history of our team. Today’s 2026 World Cup qualification draw has put Greece in a challenging group, but one that I believe will offer our players the chance to show their potential once again.

Trust in our coach and players is the element that unites us with their own efforts. And the results they have brought in the last few months are the bridge that reconnects the National team with the fans. The creation of a permanent relationship of trust between the public and the national team is a great pursuit, parallel to the competitive ones, primarily for the Federation and I hope for the whole of Greek football.

What matters in starting our journey is that we have faith and optimism. The challenge is great and the national team has proven that it can overcome obstacles when there is vision, cooperation, support and any other component that gives a team cohesion and makes it a winner”.
