A one-year-old child lost his life when, under unclear circumstances, he inhaled dangerous chemicals in a tenement in Newham at London.
It all started at midday on Tuesday (28.10.2025) when two adults and two children were taken to hospital after complaining of a chemical smell at the property in Newham. According to the BBC, the toddler died a short time later in hospital.
The fire department was called at noon at 1:20 p.m., while about 12 people were evacuated from apartments in the area as a precaution. Firefighters from Poplar, Millwall, Houston and surrounding fire stations immediately rushed to the scene.
Specially trained firefighters conducted a thorough inspection of the property to identify any hazardous materials.
A council spokesman said: “Details regarding the exact nature of the incident are still unclear and the Metropolitan Police will remain at the scene as the investigation progresses.”
“As a council, we have taken immediate action to ensure that residents who have been evacuated are cared for in a warm and safe environment,” he said.
So far there are no details about the nature of the dangerous gases that led to the child’s death.
