A military force next to the marshal Caliph Haftar launched an attack on a Chad rebel organization in the south Libya, near the borders of the two countries, according to a TV channel close to the strong man of eastern Libya.
“A big operation” was carried out by the special forces of the Tarek bin Ziyad Brigade, one of the units that remain loyal to Haftar. The target was “mercenaries and elements of Chad’s opposition on Libyan soil,” Libya al-Hadath reported.
According to the same source, their positions were targeted in Tarbu, on the southern border of Libya
The Tarek bin Ziyad brigade said it had lost a man in the operation, “destroying many armored vehicles and killing those inside” and “pursuing those fleeing to the border”.
Many Chad rebel groups are based in Libya, Sudan or the wider border region. Among them is the Front for Change and Unity in Chad (Fact) which on April 11 launched an attack in Djamena, during which the president of Chad Idris Debbie Itno was killed.
The Fact claimed that one of its positions “inside Chad” was attacked “by the so-called Tarek bin Ziyad Brigade, with the support of Sudanese and French army officers, members of the Barhan mission”.
