On the Erdogan line the Libya. Posting on Facebook, the Libyan Foreign Ministry claims that investigations for hydrocarbons which Greece designs off Crete, they violate the rights of this North African country.
In a statement via Facebook, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan National Unity is making unfounded allegations of “displaced” marine zones, reacting to Greece’s fully legal initiative to launch an international tender for the research and exploitation of hydrocarbons.
Citing non -existent claims based on unsigned and internationally isolated turquoisethe Libyan Foreign Minister disputes Greece’s sovereign rights, describing the Greek initiative as a violation of the country’s sovereign rights.
It relies on international law by fully ignoring the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which Greece is implemented strictly, while calling on our country to demonstrate responsibility and invokes the historical relations of the two countries, seeking strengthening the dialogue for “fair” dialogue.
At the same time, it warns that “unilateral actions” lead to intensity and destabilization in the area.
The announcement of the Libyan Foreign Ministry:
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan National Unity Government is concerned with concern no. areas south of Crete – some of which fall into maritime zones that disagree with the Libyan state.
The ministry stresses that these steps constitute a clear violation of Libya’s sovereign rights. Therefore, he expressly states his reservations and his absolute opposition, pointing out that any research or exploitative activity in these areas, without prior legal agreement that respects the rules of international law, is unacceptable.
The Libyan Foreign Ministry confirms, in this context, that Libya is constantly seeking to maintain the Eastern Mediterranean as a field of cooperation, peace and common development for all neighboring states, and that unilateral actions lead to more intensity and complication.
Based on the above reservations and objections, we hope that the Greek authorities will address the issue with responsibility, taking into account the historical relations between the two peoples. We call to enhance dialogue and negotiation, with the aim of finding fair and balanced solutions that are based on the rules of international law and to ensure the interests of all sides. “
