Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Top meetings at the EPP Congress for Europe, Defense and Development

The prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis He met on the sidelines of the European People’s Party conference in Valencia, Spain, with the head of the CDU parliamentary group and Germany’s elected Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

The Prime Minister congratulated Mr Merz on his election victory and stressed that he is looking forward to close cooperation with the new German government on issues of bilateral and European interest.

During the meeting, the issues of European Defense and the European Economy were discussed in the light of the latest developments.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed Mr Merz’s decision to establish a separate Ministry of Digital Governance in Germany, whose benefits had discussed during their meeting in Berlin in January, adding that in the case of Greece this particular portfolio was contributed to Greece.

The prime minister still met with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

During the meeting, issues of European interest were discussed, with an emphasis on European Collective Security and the European Defense Strategy.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that the strengthening of European defense is now imperative, while stressing that EU partnerships in the field of defense with non -EU countries should not contradict the strategic interests of the European Union and have to take into account the interests of all Member States in terms of security.

The prime minister also met with Moldova President Maia Sandu.

The latest European developments were discussed, as well as prospective bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of energy and investment.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated Greece’s support for Moldova’s European perspective and accepted Mrs Sandu’s invitation to visit Moldova in the next period.

The prime minister finally had a meeting with former Bulgarian prime minister and Gerb chief Boyko Borissov.
