The prime minister will reiterate that it is necessary to build a common European energy market
The prime minister is expected to underline the critical dimension of the “360-degree” approach, so that any new European defense capability protects all member states, i.e. not only those located on the eastern borders of the EU, but also those located on the external borders of the Union and facing threats from the South, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during the work of its Synod European Council of the European Union, starting today in Brussels.
According to government sources, Ukraine, defense and security, competitiveness and the green transition, as well as developments in the Middle East, as well as immigration, are expected to be on the agenda of another very critical meeting. In particular, in defense and security, the next steps towards the implementation of the EU 2030 Roadmap for Defense Readiness, which was presented last week, are expected to be discussed.
On European competitiveness and the double transition (green and digital), which are expected to be a key part of the discussion of the 27 European leaders, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is, according to the same sources, to reiterate that it is necessary to build a common European energy market, as well as greater integration of markets through interconnections and networks, so that energy prices in South East Europe are not higher.
With reference to the debate on the green transition and decarbonisation, the prime minister is expected to underline that pragmatism is required in order to find the golden ratio between the ambitious goals that have been set and social cohesion and competitiveness. After all, the government sources remind us that Mr. Mitsotakis analyzes this specific issue in his article in the Financial Times, where, among other things, he pointed out that greater flexibility will be needed to achieve the goals set by the EU.
However, the Prime Minister has been in Brussels since yesterday Wednesday, on the occasion of the first EU-Egypt Summit at the level of European institutions.
