The pilot application of 24 -hour subway, tram and buses one Saturday in July, as well as the activation of a digital traffic recording map, was announced by Deputy Minister of Transport Konstantinos Kiranakis, speaking on the “Direct” show by George Eugenis.

As he revealed, he has requested the study of the 24 -hour subway on Saturdays and Tram on the coastal zone in the summer, stressing that one of the July Saturdays will be piloted (in metro, tram and buses). The aim is to evaluate the operation of the system under pressure so that by 2026 it will be implemented permanently every Saturday.
The Minister gave particular attention to the presentation of the digital accident map, which already operates at the address accidents.maps.gov.grthrough which traffic will be recorded by year, point and type of accident, starting from Attica. This map, he stressed, will enable municipalities and regions to make targeted interventions, where there is a systematically increased risk.
Konstantinos Kiranakis criticized the reduction of SYRIZA’s fines and stressed that since 2018 there has been stagnation and an increase in traffic, which – as he said – “we must reverse”. As he said, the new Road Traffic Code will introduce the logic of relapse: After the first infringement, the driver will be digitally alerted through Wallet, while the next penalties will be very high. “Rehabilitation” will take five years without infringement so that the driver “proves a change of culture”. The fines will be shipped through Gov.gr and paid electronically, while the new information system that consolidates the cameras will be ready in September.
Commenting on Thymios Liberopoulos’ reaction to the measure of nightlife and taxi, Kyranakis spoke of a personal confrontation (on the side of Lymberopoulos), stressing that he is seeking dialogue with people who want to find solutions and not to find solutions. “It’s not a taxi driver, it does professional trade unionism,” he said.
Finally, on the issue of the railway, the minister said that the new company would be established shortly after the law was passed, with the aim of attracting new executives from abroad under Brain Gain, adding that by August 2026, the Athens -Thessaloniki axis would have a full telephone.
