Canada will remain “free and strong”, stressed today (27.05.2025) King Charles In his historical speech at the official launch of Parliament’s work in Ottawa, in an indirect reference to the expansive aspirations of the US President, Donald Trump.
During his speech, King Charles referred to the “country where the Canadians and I love so much”. However, he did not directly refer to US President Donald Trump, who has imposed duties on Canadian products and envisions Canada’s conversion to the 51st US state.
King Charles is recognized as head of state in Canada and is the first time in almost seven decades that a British monarch is present at the start of the Canadian Parliament.
“The true North is really strong and free,” said King Charles, referring to the National Anthem of Canada.
“Democracy, pluralism, the rule of law, self -determination and freedom are widely valuable to Canadians, values that the government is determined to protect,” said the 76 -year -old monarch who is still undergoing treatment for cancer.
King Charles arrived on Monday in Ottawa for a visit that, according to Canada’s leader, underlines his nation’s sovereignty amid President Donald Trump’s statements about the annexation of their northern neighbor by the United States.
Trump’s repeated suggestion that the US would annex Canada has pushed Prime Minister Mark Carney to invite Charles to speak the speech from the throne, which will outline his government’s agenda on the new parliament.
“This historical price responds to the weight of our time. He talks about our timeless tradition and friendship, the vitality of our constitutional monarchy and our distinctive identity, as well as the historical bonds that judgments only strengthen, “Carney said.
“The power of Canada lies in building a strong future, while embracing its English, French and indigenous roots – the union of the peoples that are our foundation,” he added.
Carney, the new prime minister and former head of the Bank of England, and the first Native Canadian Governor, Mary Simon, a spokesman for the king in Canada, welcomed King and Queen Camilla at the airport. There was also a 25 -member honorary guard by the Royal Canadian Dragon, whose king is a commander -in -chief.
