Saint Fanourios and the custom of the lantern pie
Saint Fanourios whose memory is honored on August 27, is known as the patron to find lost objects. The preparation of Fanuropita, a traditional fasting pie prepared with 7 or 9 materials, numbers that are symbolic in Orthodox tradition, has been linked to that day with many faithful still continuing the tradition.
The housewives, as you are, make the pies on the eve of the feast day, they take them to the temple for the priest to bless them. They then distribute them to relatives and neighbors, accompanying the act with a silent wish to the Saint to “reveal” what has been lost.
