The need to channel more resources to support young people farmer and farmers pointed out by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Christos Kellasduring his intervention on the panel on “Livestock: Challenges, Innovations and Tribes” at Cantina Academy, the new innovative series of conferences from Cantina and “First Issue”, entitled “Ensuring the Food of Food” in Larissa.
To this end, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food is implementing targeted measures, through the strategic plan of the CAP of EUR 19 billion by 2027, which contribute to the development and livestock, by attracting young people to production, boosting remote and disadvantaged areas. Mr Kellas also stressed that there is now an urgent need to educate and scientifically training young farmers and farmers, which is why the Ministry of Rural Development and Food is implementing a program of 40,000 euros for young farmers.
Utilizing cutting -edge technologies, such as drones and artificial intelligence, as the Deputy Minister of Rural Development said allow animal health, detection of diseases and optimizing their diet.
In terms of exports, Mr Kellas pointed out that animal products and livestock support are closely linked, as the competitiveness of exportable products depends directly on the state of the domestic livestock sector, as well as the livestock farming on the growing demand of Greek products, making a special report.
Mr. Kellas referred to a series of aid with RUS resources such as:
- EUR 556 million for linked income support in animal production
- EUR 12 million for environmental management of livestock systems
- 38 million to improve agrarchical systems
- 95 million per year for three years to convert to biological practices and methods
- 235 million a year to preserve organic farming and livestock methods
- EUR 586 million for organic farming
- 26.9 million to maintain and improve genetic resources in livestock farming
- 55.2 million to maintain indigenous breeds of agricultural animals
- EUR 28 million for the good treatment (welfare) of productive animals.
Compensation of farmers and breeders
Mr Kellas said that the last five years was a crisis management period. During the Covid (COVID), breeders were reinforced by 50m euros, with the outbreak of the Ukraine War with 140m and after the devastating consequences of Daniel and Elias 205m euros. The reinforcement of breeders continued with the payment of € 30m compensation for killed animals due to the blessing and plagues of sheep and goats.
At the same time, ELGA implemented an ad-hoc program of EUR 310 million for compensation in animal capital and vegetable production. In fact, breeders have the ability to rebuild animal capital with 100% funding through European measure 5.2 total budget of 45 million from national and Community.
Regarding the financial support of De Minimis of EUR 63 million for animal feed due to the enclosure of animals due to the measures imposed due to the zoonoses, Mr Kellas said that the signing of the Ministry of Finance was left to transfer the money to the accounts of the beneficiaries.
