Compensation EUR 30 million has already been paid by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food to date to affected breeders From the plague and the smallpox, according to what Deputy Minister Christos Kellas said yesterday (19.5.2025) in Parliament.
Responding to a question by SYRIZA MP Vassilis Kokkalis about the amount of compensation to breeders due to damage to the zoonoses, Mr Kellas stressed that “from the first moment of the appearance of the zoos we have taken measures to protect our livestock and financial support. The compensation of the JMD in 2024 and 2025 provide for generous increases, over 100%, compared to the JMD of 2023, in all categories and all ages of sheep and goats and the Ministry of Health and Animals of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Plan areas. “
Concerning feed, Mr Kellas stressed that he had already been approved by the Treasury De Minimis, due to the enclosure of animals and increased feed costs, totaling € 63m. “The Issue of the JMD and the distribution of money per region is immediately due to be given proportionally to the time of enclosure of animals. The amount will range from 4 to 8 euros per animal, “the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food said.
As for the reconstitution of animal capital, this is made possible, according to Mr Kella, with the European type 5.2 measure, with a 100%funding rate. The relevant JMD is expected within the next few days under the terms and conditions and the invitation to submit applications by the farmers.
Overall for the last 5 years, the government’s aid to farmers amounted to the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food in:
- EUR 50 million during the Covid.
- EUR 140 million with the outbreak of the Ukraine war.
- EUR 205 million after the devastating consequences of Daniel and Elias.
- EUR 30 million for killed animals, due to the zoonoses of blessing and plague of sheep and goats.
- The linked aid for the sheep and goat will also be paid within days.
