Intervention by the President of the Democracy Movement in the Forum entitled “Brain Retain & Regain”
The issue of returning Greeks abroad, the need for equal opportunities for evolution and investment in innovation and meritocracy were at the center of the intervention of the President of the Republic of the Republic, Stefanos Kasselakis at the Forum Brain Retain & Regain, during a discussion with the Gounalaki and journalists Dimitris Maniatis, Niki Luberakis and Christos Kolonas.
Among other things, Stefanos Kasselakis emphasized that many times the inability of meritocratic progress within the country pushes young people abroad, while stressing the need for investment in research and innovation. “America has invested in the research – let’s not forget that the internet was born out of this investment,” he noted, adding that a similar vision and strategy in Greece needed a similar vision and strategy. He also said that the role of politics is “to ensure equal starting points and let citizens evolve”, and that “the basic thing to do in politics is to put a new world to change it”.
Continuing, he criticized the current education system, raising questions about the functioning of universities without Article 16 and pointing out that HEIs should not function as “examination centers”, but as outbreaks of knowledge, research and creation. Mr Kasselakis did not fail to refer to the need to eliminate black money from politics, state indifference to children victims and people with disabilities who continue to experience abandonment. “Choose other people – with themselves nothing will change,” he concluded.
Regarding the proposals of the Republic of the Republic to return and stay young in Greece, they include financial and social incentives for repatriation, such as a 75% discount of taxable wages for 5 years after the refund (Italian model) and rent allowance, increased for high -profile and high -profile business Specialized Greeks and a stable decade tax system and favorable taxation for SMEs.
Regarding the strengthening of research and innovation, measures are proposed such as increasing investment in R&D from 1.5% to 3.5% of GDP, the creation of an independent strategic planning body for research and exploration of 500 joint doctoral programs between Greek and international institutions annually.
