The Greek And while we are going through the 21st century, a time of artificial intelligence, they are sought after and travel around the world, through a workshop in the Kastania Karditsa. There, they are made in the old authentic way, entirely handmade from genuine beef leather and waterproof, by Elias Koya. We met him at the recent World Affairs of Thessaly held in Makrychori in the Municipality of Tempi. The story of the name of Koya begins in 1910. The founder was Antonios Kogias, who, thanks to his excellent art, became known beyond the boundaries of Thessaly. He made tsarouchia, pigs and other local footwear.
Kastania in those years, as reported by the lab, was a head village with many tsarouchi, tailor, blacksmiths, traders, etc. a village with a school where more than 200 students were studying. It was also the passage of the Sarakatsanas to and from the winter and the Agrafa.
Antonios Koya was succeeded by his son Evangelos who in 1971 transferred his workshop to Karditsa for the simple reason that from the villages the people were slowly leaving for urban centers. Everyone remembers Barba Vangelis and his workshop on Koumoundourou Street where he was repairing footwear and where he was making no pair of tsaroukas as only few were wearing tsarouki. Later on and for living reasons, he was also involved in the footwear. After 1980 the dance associations began to appear and the work of the construction of the tsaruchs increased significantly.
The art is continued by Vangelis’ son, Elias, who transferred the workshop to Kastania Karditsa, where grandfather Antonios once founded the first workshop.

Dance men are of many kinds. Here are the islanders and the tie, which are worn by various clubs. A special place for the workshop, as Mr. Elias Kogias points out in the Athens -Macedonian News Agency, holds tsarouchia and pigs. They are manufactured in the old authentic way, entirely handmade, and for which, he also emphasizes, we accept orders from every corner of the globe mainly from Greek cultural associations and families, but also foreigners. It’s something we didn’t expect, and that’s why we try to do it every time, as this demand is a challenge for us. The Greek piglet travels to Central Europe, the US, Asia and Australia.
The workshop also manufactures authentic Cretan stables, with excellent application, made of high quality skins, the re -deerma is waterproof (from beef), the foam gravy and the leather sewing sole, as well as riding boots of all types, The best materials are used and the construction is made on custom.
