Kaklamanis: »Our debt is the memory and the clear will for a stronger, more integral, more proud of Greece»

The message of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament for the Anniversary of the Revolution of 1821

A clear message that 204 years after the Revolution of 1821, the Greek people not only do not forget, as it has a debt, but will continue to honor its liberation from the Turkish yoke, so that the independent homeland, which our ancestors have given us, become more integral to us, Kaklamanis.

In detail, the statement by the Speaker of the House:

“This year’s 204 years have passed since the uprising of the Greeks against the Turkish yoke. After 4 centuries of submission, oppression and darkness, our ancestors for the first time emerged in the light of another perspective claiming national independence, but also a self -esteem within the European environment.

However, the longing for freedom, political will and mature conditions were no longer capable of predictment of an unseen struggle … And yet, despite the bloody losses, frustrations and sacrifices, the Greek race has proven that it always stands brave in front of its dream.

People like all people, the rebellious Greeks – both inspirers and fighters – raised a head to lift a new, independent state on their shoulders, changing the course of Greece and Europe decisively and definitively.

Today, 204 years later, the internal and external challenges, with the persistent challenge of our sovereign rights by the neighboring country, raise new questions about which Greece we ultimately want. The question for all of us is the practical price we owe to the leaders of the race. An honor that is none other than the responsibility and reflection on whether we are worthy of the people who have given us a homeland.

Our debt is memory. But our debt is also the clear will for a stronger, more integral, more proud Greece. A Greece that will honor the revolution through the rise of its homeland and its people. “
