THE journalist And poet Minas Papazoglou “passed away”, leaving a significant gap in art and journalism, and will remain forever in the hearts of the world as “Minas” from the song “Jamaica”.
He is a friend and old associate of Lefteris Papadopoulos, who had even mentioned the lyrics of a famous song. The reason for the “Jamaica”which some lyrics say, “Every morning we swept away with Minas traveling far to Jamaica.” So he was the journalist Minas Papazoglou, who is no longer in life.
The unpleasant news was publicly shared by Tasos Tryfonos, while also revealing how he learned that Minas Papazoglou was the “Minas” of the popular song.
“Zamaika’s Minas” left “. We all or almost all of us were one of the most classic songs in Greek song, “Jamaica” in music by Manos Loizos and lyrics by Lefteris Papadopoulos with the wonderful voice of Haroula Alexiou.
So I remember in the Music lesson in High School to sing it constantly and sounding at school holidays. In 2000, while I have been in Athens for 6 years, I am looking for a home and find a newly built maisonette in Caesarea. I go up to the building and there is the owner Minas Papazoglou. It was his father’s old refugee house of Asia Minor which was demolished and the new building was built in place. A veteran youth journalist covered the Ministry of Education and had covered the events of the Technical University in 1973. He had also served as an ERT executive. Of course I didn’t know these. I learned about our discussion.
As soon as he heard that I was a journalist he tells me “I was asked by many of the house you will get you who are a colleague”. But I had no idea about its history and course. After 1-2 years I watch the great Lefteris Papadopoulos on Elena Akrita’s excellent “Light Lights” show and I am surprised to say: “I was writing me lyrics out of my life, my daily life. I lived twelve wonderful years in the Maisonette of Caesarea and although it was 13 years since then I had kept in touch with his children. Today, Irene’s daughter (to whom he has dedicated one of the poetry collections he issued) informed me that Minas left for traveling distant … to “Jamaica”. Minas Papazoglou was a long -term journalist in newspapers and a member of ESIEA. He has been honored with the Award of the Athanasiou V. Botsi Journalism Promotion Foundation for his overall contribution to journalism and education.
He was also a poet and had published many books.
