‘Honest and constructive conversations’ with the USA has the Japanaccording to yesterday’s statements (1.5.2025) of Japanese Finance Minister Royai Acasua, stating that nothing was discussed with China, nor the level of the Gen..
“We have been able to proceed (…), for example, the expansion of the trade exchanges of our two countries, non -tariff measures and cooperation in the fields of the economy and security,” said the Minister of revitalization of the economy and a leader of Japan. He had talks with US Finance Minister Scott Bessed, as in mid -April, when US President Donald Trump himself had participated.
The two sides agreed that the “next cycle of negotiations” be held at ministers “from mid -May”, always according to Mr Akazaua.
Japan may propose to buy more corn and soy soy from the US, as well as talks on the utilization of gas deposits in Alaska to “re -balance” its wide surplus in the bilateral current trade (68) bilateral trade.
Washington’s dedicated ally for decades and a major source of foreign investment in the US, Japan has been confronted, like other countries, with US additional 25% customs duties in cars, steel and aluminum. Cars account for about 28% of Japanese exports to the US market.
It is also threatened to soon undergo “reciprocal” additional customs duties on all its products exported to the US market, although Donald Trump suspended the theory until the beginning of July, except those targeting China. A 10% base duty is applied to almost all imported items.
Ryosey Akazawa reiterated yesterday that Tokyo considers the customs duties imposed by Donald Trump “extremely sad”.
He also stressed that the issue of trade relations between Japan and China did not get in touch with his contacts. Beijing has recently been affected by countries that have adopted a “appeal” policy against the US although any trade agreement is being trampled on and are threatened with their own interests.
“We also have very strong economic relations with China,” as well as the US, he said, and “we will continue to watch with great interest the evolution of Sino -American relations,” Mr. Akazawa commented.
He also assured that the negotiations have not been raised the issue of security, although US President Trump often emphasizes the cost of US military support in Japan, nor the issue of the value of the Japanese currency.
The Trump government accuses Tokyo of intentionally keeping the value of the GEN artificially reduced to favor Japanese exports.
Following unfavorable forecasts by the Bank of Japan, the Japanese currency has fell further in recent hours, at almost 146: 1 against the dollar, however higher than mid -January.
