Ivan Rakitic retires from active action: “My favorite football, I have a separate letter for you”

THE Ivan Rakitic He announced on Monday (07.07.2025) that he was withdrawing from active action at the age of 37, after a last season with Heiduk Split. “My favorite football, I have a separate letter for you,” Croatian commented on the post on social media.

“Dear football, you gave me more than I could ever dream. Friends, feelings, joys and tears (…) Now is the time to say goodbye. Because even if I get away from you, you will never get away from me.

The Croatian international (106 entries) completes a rich career of almost 20 years full of success, including a Champions League with Barcelona in 2015 and two Europa League with Sevilla (2014, 2023).

Together with Luca Montric, Ivan Rakicic was one of the pillars of the “golden” Croatian generation, who reached the 2018 World Cup final, where he lost to France.

Former Barcelona number 4 has been falling since he left Sevilla in 2024. This season he last competed in Hayduk Split after just eight games he played for Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Spanish press, Rakitic could become athletic director in Heiduk, but the Croatian club has not yet announced anything.
