Israel: Netanyahu’s Undeclared SHAS

The lucid party Shas decided to leave his government Benjamin Netanyahu to Israelas Israeli media reported on Wednesday afternoon (16.7.25).

The party said it was leaving Netanyahu’s government, in protest because the Israeli parliament did not guarantee the future exclusion of religious students from military service.

“Shas (…) representatives find with a heavy heart that they cannot remain in the government and be part of it,” the announcement notes one day after the party is also noted. United Judaism of Torah (UTJ) announced his departure.

Unlike the UTJ, however, a spokeswoman for SHAS said the party would not leave the parliamentary coalition, which means that Netanyahu maintains even a slim majority in Knesset and no early elections need to be announced.

Parliament will cut off its work on July 27, for three months, giving Netanyahu an opportunity to solve the chronic problem of recruitment of the surrounding Jewish students who were so far excluded from military service.
