Foreign Ministers of France, Britain and Germany (the so -called E3 group), as well as the EU spokesman, met on Tuesday (23.09.2025) with their Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of his general meeting UNfor talks on the Iranian nuclear program, in an attempt to find, at the last moment, an agreement that would suspend the re -activation of sanctions against him Iran.
However, the conversations for the Iran’s nuclear program remain in a deadlock. “The ball is on the Iranian stadium,” a French diplomatic source said, warning that if no progress is made by Saturday, sanctions would be inevitable.
Group E3 has already accused Tehran of violating the 2015 agreement and activated the “Snapback” clause, which allows for automatic penalties to be automatically restored.
Iran’s supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Hameni, reiterated that his country is not seeking to build nuclear weapons, but categorically rejected any reopening of talks with the US, referring to “blackmail” that does not serve the Iranian interests. For his part, Donald Trump stressed from the UN step that “the number one sponsor of terrorism should never have the most dangerous weapon.”
Within this tense climate, the head of the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA) Rafael Grossi announced that a team of inspectors is heading to Iran in case of a compromise. “We only have a few days to see if there can be an agreement,” Grossi warned.
