Iran: In the 8th dead and 750 the injured from the explosion that leveled Bandar Abbas – “Cause, the chemicals in the containers”

At least eight are the dead and more than 700 are injured by the huge explosionprobably caused by the explosion of chemicals, today (26.04.2025), in its largest port IranBandar Abbas, the state media broadcast.

“The cause of the explosion was the chemicals in the containers,” Hossein Zafari told Iranian news agency Ilna.

“Earlier, the Crisis Manager had warned this port during his visits and had pointed out the likelihood of danger,” Zafari said.

However, a spokesman for the Iranian government said that although chemicals had probably caused the explosion, it was not yet possible to determine the exact reason.

The port of Sasid Rajai is located more than 1,000 kilometers south of Tehran and according to the official IRNA news agency is the country’s largest commercial port.

More than 70% of Iran’s goods pass through this port, which borders the straits of Ormuz, where one fifth of world oil production passes.
