MEP denounces distortions and the role of specific electricity managers
Written question to the European Commission was submitted by MEP of SYRIZA and the EUROPADA of the Left and a member of the Budget and Environment Committee Nicolas Farantouris For the action of national transport managers electricity such as the Austrian that significantly affects prices in Southeast Europe.
As the Greek points out MEP and Professor of Energy Law, ‘In accordance with Article 16 (8) of Regulation 2019/943, electricity transmission managers must ensure minimum levels of available capacity and may not limit the available volume of interconnection as a means of resolving their congestion within their own. Exceptionally, derogations may be granted for the sake of maintaining the security of the system, but avoiding discrimination between internal and internal exchanges (par. 9 of the same article). “
However, according to Mr Farantouris, the Austrian Transmission System (APG) manager has received six consecutive derogations, remaining essentially out of the above requirements.
Therefore, with the continued derogation, this exceptional possibility becomes a consolidated situation, significantly affecting the volume of capacity provided in other participating states in the energy market.
This, in turn, affects the level of price, creating major differences in electricity prices in the next day’s markets between Southeast and Central Europe, significantly affecting the households, businesses and industries in Southeast Europe.
On the basis of the above, the Greek MEP asks the Commission if he considers the granting of congenital derogations to APG, data and their consequences on electricity prices in Southeast Europe.
It also asks the Commission to work with Acer to end the abuse of derogation.
Finally, Nikolas Farantouris calls on the Commission to take steps to tackle the significantly higher electricity prices in Southeast European countries, such as Greece.
