The need for targeted measures to reduce prices and restore balance and consistency between Member States was underlined by Dimitris Tsiodras In his intervention in plenary session European Parliament.
He emphasized the importance of modernizing and interconnectioning networks, noting that the Commission’s action plan on networks is moving in the right direction, but the challenge is now its rapid and coherent implementation.
Referring to energy prices, he made a special reference to Greece and Southeast Europe, where energy costs remains even higher, disproportionately affecting citizens and businesses and creating a social and economic gap, which cannot continue.
The New Democracy MEP and spokesman continued to welcome the creation of a Task Force for better coordination in energy policy and the acceleration of the energy union, as proposed by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis since January 2025.
He added that Greece has already made specific proposals for the interconnection, acceleration of licensing and the creation of a single European Network Fund.
He noted that today’s funds are not sufficient while They are required to strengthen them and leverage private investment as a committee estimates that € 584 billion will be required by 2030 for transport and distribution networks.
He concluded by emphasizing that the networks strategy is not technical, it is energy, industrial, social and geopolitical and must become a political priority.
