Intensive Traffic Controls for helmet, electric skates and distributors – Attica champion

To one of their six checks which took place on drivers and passengers in the first week of the “zero tolerance for non -use of helmet” campaign, an infringement was identified. The campaign started from Traffic police and the Police Services on the occasion of the implementation of the new Road Traffic Code (KOK), accompanied by intensive inspections and numerous information actions across the country.

Thousands of checks – hundreds of violations

According to a announcement by the Hellenic Police Headquarters, in the framework of a Special Traffic Operational Plan, last week (1st week of implementation), they were held 25.817 targeted checks to drivers and passengers, distributors and users of light personal electric vehicles (EPIOs).

The audits emerged in total 3.959 violations For non -use of a protective helmet:

  • 3.202 violations to two -wheeled drivers (of which 245 were distributors)

  • 558 Violations to passengers

  • 124 violations to OPIO drivers (such as electric skates)

  • 49 violations to ATV guides (also known as ‘pigs’)

By the total violations, 249 concerned workers in the distribution industrywhich causes reflection, as distributors are at increased risk of injury due to the nature of their job.

The areas with the most violations

More specifically, per region, the following offenses were confirmed:

• 1,287 in Attica,

• 374 in the southern Aegean,

• 360 in Crete,

• 342 in the Ionian Islands,

• 313 in Western Greece,

• 302 in Thessaloniki,

• 206 in Epirus,

• 193 in the Peloponnese,

• 150 in Thessaly,

• 127 in Central Macedonia,

• 108 in the North Aegean,

• 93 in Central Greece,

• 92 in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and

• 12 in Western Macedonia.

From the ELAS Headquarters It is emphasized that with the introduction of the new Road Traffic Code (Law 5209/2025), the state gives a clear message of zero tolerance to non -use of helmet, through the tightening of penalties as follows:

• EUR 350 fine and deduction of the driving license for -30 days for the bicycle driver (the same penalties apply to the driver who does not ensure passenger safety).

• EUR 350 a fine for the bicycle passenger.

• 30 euros fine for the OPIO driver.

Police note that the purpose of the campaign is not collecting, but the universal acceptance of drivers and passengers’ obligation to wear a certified helmet as a basic means of protecting their lives.

For this reason, in addition to strict controls, prevention and awareness actions are already being implemented, in collaboration with Local Government and the help of private and professionals, such as Agrinio, Alonissos and Trikala Thessaly, where police officers distributed protective helmets to motorcycles.
