4,7% reduction in June recorded the General Price Index Import to Industry On an annual basis, according to ELSTAT data, overturning the 4.4% rise that had occurred a year ago.
The decline is mainly attributed to a 7.6%decrease in import prices in the industry from countries outside the eurozone, with sectors such as pumping crude oil (-16.5%) and the production of oil refining products (-13.6%) recording the greatest pressures.
Compared to May 2025, the index increased by 1.7%, mainly due to a growth of 2.7% in imports from outside the eurozone and 0.4% from the eurozone. The monthly rise was contributed by the energy, with an increase of 6.1%, and individual sectors such as the production of oil refining products (+11.3%) and crude oil and gas pumping (+4.6%).
At the twelve -month level (July 2024 – June 2025), the average index fell 3.6%, compared to a decrease of 6.2% in the previous period. The decline in energy imports from countries outside the eurozone, coupled with lower prices in basic industries, shows that pressure on the domestic industry from energy costs are receding, although fluctuations in international markets remain.
