The India Human Rights Committee demanded today (30.05.2025) by the Police to investigate the savage attack by a journalist who was tied, beaten and trained in a village while investigating corruption cases.
A video released on social media shows the violent attack on journalist Bijai Prandan, who covered the case of construction of a property in the State of Ontisa in India, which took place on May 25.
“They were attacked by him unexpectedly … He was tied to his feet and hands, trapped him in the village and then tied him to a pole and ruthlessly beaten him,” the National Committee on Human Rights (NHRC) said today.
The committee demanded from the state’s police to submit a report within the next 15 days.
Pradhan, a journalist for the private news agency Bada Khabar in Odia, was brutally tied and beaten by a group of men while reporting for irregularities in a local construction project in the village of Kulthipali in Bolangir.
The attack lasted two hours and resulted in the rupture of his right drum. The journalist is treated for his injuries to the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, as he told the CPJ.
The victim’s mobile phones and the victim’s camera were destroyed by the perpetrators, who threatened him not to report the incident, the committee added.
According to local media, four suspects have been arrested.
India, where threats and attacks on journalists are not rare, is in the 151st place, in a total of 180 countries, in the classification of journalists without borders on press freedom.
In January, the media surveillance committee demanded that investigation be carried out after being found, in a concrete -covered cavity, the corpse of a journalist who had also been beaten. This journalist covered corruption cases in the neighboring Satisigar State.
