In a video released, a resident of the area is recorded literally in the river of Evros in places where water has either been dramatically less or completely disappeared.
This video, allegedly recorded last Monday (14.07.2025) and published by fonirodopis.gr, comes to confirm in the most revealing way the tragic situation experienced by the residents of South Evros. Thousands of acres of crops are deprived of water day by day, as producers see the water lost and state promises flying in the air.
Farmers are talking about survival struggle, as drought has swallowed their crops, while in neighboring countries, such as Bulgaria and Turkey, measures have been taken to safeguard water reserves.
At the same time, there are unanswered questions about what is happening with the waters of Arda and when the water release agreements will be implemented to the Greek side. From one week to the next, the authorities shift the problem solving, but the soil is tearful, the crops are lost and the people of labor are measured.
Equally heartbreaking is the image in the wetland of the Evros Delta, where according to the complaints of residents and bodies, there is a lack of fresh water, which threatens biodiversity and causes the deaths of fish and animals.
The video from Evros captures in a matter of seconds the abandonment, indifference and impasse that people in the area experience daily. And despite the big words of those responsible, the situation is dramatic.
