Since March 2025, at the initiative of the new Minister of Maritime and Island Policy, Claus Kikiliaa comprehensive plan for enhancement of security is implemented port of the country, as a response to the requirements of the summer season and increased passenger traffic.
As part of this strategy, the ministry has already carried out more than 700 extraordinary inspections related to the safety of ships, passengers and seafarers this year.
At the same time, the operational presence of the Port Body in the two main ports of Attica, with 70 additional ports to be placed in Piraeus and 20 ports to return to Rafinawith the aim of intensifying controls and ensuring order and security in boarding areas. Correspondingly in the Cyclades, the Port Authorities are reinforced with an additional 48 Ports, while the Port Authorities were reinforced with additional 94 port executives.
The Minister of Maritime and Island Policy addresses a strict message to all involved: the legislation must be kept strictly in terms of both the technical status of the ships and the working conditions of the crews. At the same time, the Minister, from the first moment of taking his duties, has given a clear mandate to the Coast Guard and all Port Authorities in the country, to intensify the inspections of the security of workers and passengers.
