Continues to seek to accelerate trade negotiations with the US, or European Unionjust six weeks before the duties 50% announced by Donald Trump.
The European Commission of the EU will focus its new strategy in critical areas as well as tariffs, according to Bloomberg. The Commission will also link its approach to dealing with barriers to its plans to simplify the rules.
It is noted that the head of the EU Trade Department, Maros Sefzovic, will lead political negotiations for sectors such as steel and aluminum, cars, medicines, semiconductors and civilian aircraft, according to the same report. These conversations will be held in parallel with technical discussions on duties and non -tariffs.
The sectors that Sefcovic will focus on either have already been hit by US duties or foreseen for future contributions. The EU has proposed deepening US co -operation in these areas in the context of a previous proposal with the US last week, Bloomberg said.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump said he was encouraged that the European Union accelerates trade negotiations. “I was just informed that the EU invited to specify quickly meeting dates. This is a positive event, and I hope that my European trade nations for trade with the United States of America will be opened, as well as my own claim to China, “Trump said in his post today (27.5.2025) on social media.
Trump has extended the deadline for imposing duties by July 9, after a recent telephone contact with European Commission President Ursula von der Laen, in which he agreed to expedite the talks.
“I was extremely pleased with the distribution of 50% of the duties in the European Union, especially since they were walking slowly (to put it gently!), Our negotiations with them,” Trump said in his post.
It is rare for Trump to praise the EU, which he has long ridiculed as a plan to steal the US. The block was founded to promote peace and stability in Europe after World War II.
