According to an announcement by INSEOU, the receipts from tourism in January – March 2025, increased by 4.4%.
As far as international air arrivals are concerned, they increased by +197 mm/+ 6.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2024.
In April, 1.6 million international arrivals were recorded, with an increase of +122 mm/+ 8.4% compared to April 2024.
The course in the individual geographical units in January -April 2025 is upward.
In particular, most international air arrivals were recorded in Crete, with 347 thousand passengers and an increase of +35 mm/+ 11.2% compared to 2024. The Dodecanese followed with 217 mm arrivals (+13 mm/+ 6.1%) and the Ionian islands with 110 mm. mm/+ 0.6%. In the Peloponnese, arrivals amounted to 10 thousand passengers, increased by +7.9%. The exceptions are the Cyclades, where 34 mm arrivals were recorded, recording a drop of -11 mm/- 24.9%.
Travel receipts
In January -March 2025, travel receipts rose +4.4% compared to the corresponding period of 2024 and stood at € 1,073 million.
This development is due both to the increase in receipts by residents of the European Union by +0.3%, which stood at EUR 520 million and the rise in proceeds from residents of other countries by +8.5%, which stood at EUR 526 million. More specifically, receipts from residents of euro area countries stood at € 434 million, down -0.6%, while receipts from residents of European Union countries outside the euro zone increased by +5.1% and stood at EUR 86 million.
Proceeds from Germany decreased by -16.3% and stood at € 114 million, as did France, which declined by -34.4% and stood at € 32 million. Italy was increased by 33.5%, which stood at € 77 million.
The other countries rose +17.8% by the United Kingdom receipts, which stood at € 72 million, and the US revenue increased by +4.5% and stood at € 144 million.
Short -term leases
The evolution of the number of short -term leasing accommodation during the first four months of 2025 shows a continuing increase compared to the corresponding period of 2024, maintaining the dynamics that began in 2023 and was strengthened by 2024.
The second quarter started with a rise, as 228 thousand accommodation was recorded in April, increased by +16 mm compared to April 2024 (212 mm). This increase further enhances the upward trajectory of the first trimester.
The number of short -term leasing beds at national level recorded a steady upward trend in the first quarter of 2025, continuing the positive trend of 2024. The second quarter began with a strong rise, as they were recorded in April. beds, increased by +72 mm compared to 936 mm of April 2024.
It is noteworthy that for the first time in 2025 the number of beds available exceeded 1 million since April, while last year the corresponding limit was recorded only in July, which is also a peak month for tourism.
The structure of travelers in the short -term lease in the first quarter of 2025 highlights an enhanced presence of foreign visitors, following an upward trend month by month. The start of the second quarter further reinforced aliens’ sovereignty, as they represented 86% of visitors in April, compared to just 14% of the nationals.
