In “Red” the RES and Utilities Accounts (UP Services (SG)

Increasing the deficits are coming to the accounts relating to renewable energy sources (RES) and the utility services (SGI), based on the latest data.

More specifically, at € 37.15 million, the deficit of the special account maintained by the public official DEPEPE for RES producers’ fees, such as wind and photovoltaics, was in May.

This is a significant difference from the April 59.83 million surplus.

There was a big change in the first two LG -1 and LG -2 calculations, which relate to the older projects that entered the system until 2020. In this case, the cumulative balance deteriorated from -16.1 million in April to -100 million in May.

During the same period, the computing of new LG-3 projects had a decrease in its own balance from +75.93 million to +62.93 million euros. The sum of all the computes ultimately gives the above deficit of EUR 37.15 million.

At the same time, an inflated deficit is also observed in the case of another account for the purchase of electricity, this utility services (HGI). That is, it is the charge that consumers pay for the precise production of electricity in the islands of our country, that is, they remain autonomous.

As things are today, electricity suppliers are taking on the relevant costs and then recover from that account.

The government proceeded in early 2025 to a “injection” of € 400 million to close the large 600 million hole that had been created. However, in the last quarter the SKE deficit was re -raised by 100m euros, reaching € 300m.

This is a problem that will accompany the market for some time until the benefit of the islands’ interconnections with the mainland. For their part, suppliers estimate that new budget support will be needed to operate in the interim market smoothly.
