O Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, On the occasion of the celebration of World Environment Day, as June 5th has been established, he visited today Parnitha and the facilities of the Public Forest Nursery of Agia Triada, sending a message of hope and sympathy to protect the environment. During the visit, experiential educational activities were implemented with the participation of 50 students from the 29th Elementary School of the Municipality of Acharnes, such as plantings, guided tours and cleaning.
The Minister of Environment and Energy was accompanied by the Secretary General of Forests, Mr. Stathis Stathopoulos and the Secretary General of Waste Management Coordination, Mr. Manolis Grafakos.
World Environment Day 2025 is honored this year with actions all over Greece. The wider area of Parnitha, focusing on the task of forestry services and public structures for protection and restoration of the natural environment, remains emblematic of forestry policy after catastrophic fires. In recent years, extensive artificial reforestations have been carried out in recent years, with the national reforestation plan in which the foreseen, which provides for upgrade 14,436 acres, With the work already started (hollowing, soil preparation, etc.) and autumn expected plantations. In addition, after the fire of 2023, extensive anti -corrosion projects were implemented, and the implementation of flood protection projects, a budget of EUR 5 million. At the same time, the “Parnitha National Park Management” was prepared in the mountainous volume of 165,000 acres, with a final stage to develop a fire protection plan for an area of 265,857.34 acres.

The Public Forest Nursery of the Holy Trinity serves the needs of reforestation and plant interventions in Attica over time and in Central Greece in specific cold species (especially fir and black pine). Plant material covers reforestations, environmental restorations after fires (Tatoi, Varimbi, Parnitha, Ymittos, etc.), as well as urban reforestation activities by local authorities and schools.
Upon completion of the visit to Parnitha, the Minister of Environment and Energy said: “Protection of nature is not an option, it is duty. Not only today, World Environment Day, but every day, for each one and each of us.
