In France, Mr. Mitsotakis: The meal with Macron and the UN Conference on the Oceans – Athens positions

THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis will travel today to Nice where Sunday and Monday will participate in the 3rd UN Conference on the Oceans.

The prime minister, according to government officials, is expected to emphasize the importance of Greece to ocean protection and seaand the important measures it has taken in the direction of taking action against the multiple crises facing the seas and oceans and stressing that Greece is speeding up to sustainable and responsible management of its maritime resources.

Note that the April 2024 Athens organized the 9th Ocean Conference Conference, in which more than 471 new commitments have been achieved – 21 new commitments by Greece – to protect the $ 11 billion in the oceans, delivered a significant contribution to UNOC3. Among the commitments our country has taken is the Creation of two national marine parks in the Ionian Sea and the Aegean to increase the magnitude of its marine protected areas to 30% of its territorial waters.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis is still expected to highlight the issue of maritime security, top Priority of Greece’s term of office as an elected member of the UN Security Council (2025-2026), the topic of the discussion of high level to UN Security Councilwhich was chaired by the Prime Minister on May 20 at the United Nations headquarters in New York. In Nice the prime minister will describe Greece’s new priorities in relation to the seas and the oceans. Finally, Mr. Mitsotakis will also participate in the meeting organized by Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the Unoc3 “For a More Connected Mediterranean” on collaborations and investment in interconnection projects in the Mediterranean.

In detail the program of Kyriakos Mitsotakis

On Sunday night, Mr. Mitsotakis will attend the leaders’ dinner that will be quoted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Conference.

On Monday at 14:30 (Greek time) Kyriakos Mitsotakis will participate in an EU event on “Aligning Domestic, Regional and International Ocean Governance: The European Ocean Pact”.

At 18:00 the prime minister will speak at the Summit on “Pour Une Méditerranée Connectée”.

As part of the proceedings, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will carry out national intervention in the plenary.
