Talks focused on the bilateral cooperation of Cyprus-France, developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus issue today, in Nicosia, by Cypriot Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kobos with his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Baro. Prior to his conversations with his Cypriot counterpart, Mr Baros was welcomed by President Nikos Christodoulides.
The main knot and Baros will have a separate meeting, and then there will be expanded talks between the delegations of the two countries.
Announcement by the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that in the context of strategic cooperation and the formation of the strategic partnership between the Republic of Cyprus and the French Republic, Mr Kobos will meet today with the Foreign Minister of France, Mr Baros, at the Foreign Ministry.
“During the talks, issues related to bilateral Cyprus-France cooperation, including defense and security, energy, education and culture sectors, will be examined.”
“Particular emphasis will be placed on the priorities of the Republic of Cyprus in view of the forthcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), as well as the importance of close cooperation with France at European level,” the statement said.
The two ministers will also exchange views on developments in the region and the Cyprus issue, it is added, and it is noted that, after completing the talks, the two ministers will make statements in the media.
It is noted that before the meeting of the two ministers, the French Foreign Minister will address the annual meeting of the Heads of Diplomatic Missions of the Republic of Cyprus.
“Cooperation between Cyprus and France is reinforced both within the EU and international times, including the International Franco Organization, a full member of which Cyprus has been since October 2024,” the statement concludes.
In the afternoon, Mr. Baros will visit the Research and Rescue Coordination Center in Larnaca, accompanied by Mr. Kobo.
