In a low 16 month the price of electricity in August – monthly 48% drop in retail

At 16 months low the stock market fell price her electricity In August, a declining retail prices for September, which are reduced by up to 48 % compared to the previous month.

Specifically, according to energy stock market data, the electricity price stood at 73.15 euros per megawatt in August, which is the lowest of April 2024 when it had fallen to 60.11 euros. In the interim it had increased (last February) over 150 euros.

Positive evolution is the fact that prices have fallen amidst the peak of the summer season, so there are generally high prices (August 2024: 129.83 per megawatt, August 2023: 109.33 euros, August 2022, with energy crisis: 436.53 euros).

As noted by Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tsafos:

“In August something rare happened but very important: Greece had one of the lowest wholesale prices in Europe. Our prices were lower not only than our neighbors, but also by countries such as Austria, Germany, Denmark, Poland, and many more. Only six countries had lower wholesale than Greece in August. Of course, the energy transition is not a straight line. It has ups and downs. And we have not yet reached the point where our RES secures consistently low prices. But August was a stigma of the future – and a clear indication that RES are a huge comparative advantage for our country. “

The factors that contributed to this year’s recession were the increased production of renewables, not only from photovoltaics but also from the winds moved by meltemia, the government’s initiatives at European level for better operation of cross -border trade and the political trade in Retail. Following were the September invoices’ announcements, which are reduced from 10% to 48% compared to August. However, it is worth noting that despite the high declining, the majority of “green” invoices where hundreds of thousands of consumers remain, are more expensive than several “blue” (fixed) invoices offers that thus secure lower charges at lower risk.

Positive was the situation in the market for liquid fuels, where the unleaded prices were on average at 1.75 euros per liter, 10 minutes lower than last year.
