The International Monetary Fund (IMF) resulted in agreement with the Ukraine to disburse the next part of a $ 15.5 billion loan package.
Specifically, the IMF approved a new dose of about $ 500 million after completing an assessment during a visit to Kiev this week, the lender said today (29.5.2025). The agreement with Ukraine must be approved by the Board of Directors of the Foundation, which is often simply a formal process, according to Bloomberg.
It is the ninth disbursement from the approval of the program in 2023. The package is the first for the IMF, which revised its rules after the full -scale invasion of Russia in 2022 to allow loans to be given to a war country.
IMF talks with Ukrainian officials about the next installment of funding did not reveal significant disagreements. But the lender expressed concern about Kiev’s plan to expand the war budget by about $ 400 billion ($ 9.6 billion) this year, pushing the deficit over 10% of GDP.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Finance refused to comment. The IMF recognizes the urgent need to increase military spending, as efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement are delayed, but officials want Kiev to determine how it will fund them, according to the same report.
