THE Hurricane Melissaafter mercilessly beating her Jamaicamade landfall today off the southern coast of eastern Cuba, having previously been downgraded to a Category 3 hurricane, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its latest update.
Hurricane Melissa is located about 95 kilometers west-southwest of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, with maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour, the Miami-based hurricane forecasting service said.
Cuba had declared a “state of alert” in six provinces in its eastern part, while Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness described the country as a “hit zone”.

Jamaica was at the mercy of the typhoon and suffered severe damage from winds of up to 295 km/h (185 mph) that brought down trees, ripped off roofs and landslides and left thousands of homes without power.
Since the passage of the hurricane, the toll so far is 7 dead, in the Caribbean, three in Jamaica, three in Haiti and one in the Dominican Republic.
Shocking are also the images that circulated on the internet from the passage of the hurricane in Jamaica.
