Under the microscope of the Ministry of Infrastructure there are key congestion traffic in the Atticawith the forefront of direct interventions in the key points of road network.
During a workshop for Public and Private Partnerships (PPPs) and Model Proposals, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Tahaios emphasized that traffic congestion of the Transfiguration Node on Attica Road – one of the largest congestion points is immediate priority. The solution it is for the construction of two distinct expenses, about 150 meters, with the aim of separation of traffic according to the direction of vehicles to PATHE.
As the Deputy Minister noted, this proposal is the only realistic way out for a problem that is exacerbated by peak hours, mainly due to the large volume of heavy vehicles. Today, drivers moving either from Eleusis to Lamia or from the airport to northern Greece use a joint exit, causing significant delays.
Final studies are expected within the next few months, with the project being launched within the year, provided that the final plans are approved. The duration of construction is estimated in four months, with temporary traffic regulations in the direction of Eleusis. The implementation will be undertaken by the new concessionaire of Attica Road.
Kimi Avenue and Skaramagas:
Projects with a different dynamic in the field of larger works, the much -talked -about expansion of Kimi Avenue is stagnant, as despite the emergence of a temporary contractor (TERNA – AKTOR), the process has been “frozen” due to the appeal of the Municipality of Heraklion to the Council of State. At the same time, according to Mr. Tahaiaos, the project also encounters another, more structural restriction: the lack of available financial resources.
On the contrary, the construction of the triple hub in Skaramanga seems to be moving, as the ministry has secured funding. The project, with a budget of € 65 million and a 36 -month schedule, is expected to dramatically improve traffic at the Athens -Schistou Avenue junction, which is partially operating. In addition, it will facilitate access to the Aigaleo regional, bypassing the aggravated route through Aspropyrgos.
Elefsina – Oinofyta: “The Attica bypass” in the drawer
The key project for Kifissos’ congestion is considered the new road connection Elefsina-Oinofyta, also known as “bypassing Attica”. The project, proposed as a standard proposal by GEK TERNA since May 2023, remains in the evaluation stage, as the government has not yet substantially activated the relevant institutional framework.
The new closed highway is projected to start from Eleusis, interconnected with Attica Odos, and ending up in Oinofyta, serving heavy traffic and freight transport that currently burdens the Kifissos axis. Despite the delay, the ministry does not exclude its implementation in the second year.
Elliniko: Impansions and Scenarios for Subway
The great urban redevelopment of the Hellenic reinstates the need for strong traffic interventions. At the table is the proposal for the construction of the “Heliopolis Tunnel”, included in an earlier study by Lamda Development. Although the project has not yet been officially evaluated by the ministry, it remains in the government’s interest, despite the high cost of construction and operation.
Lamda has also reinstated the proposal for the unequalization of Vouliagmeni Avenue, from Alimos to Elliniko, while the underground tunnel of Poseidon Avenue is constructed, a project that is expected to be completed in 2026, but will be fully operational in 2028, after 2028, after resolving technicians. the definition of operator).
At the same time, the possibility of extending line 2 of the metro to Glyfada, with an intermediate station in the IRC area (casino, hotel and conference center), within Elliniko. Lamda has expressed interest in assisting, but the financial framework remains cloudy for the preparation of the required studies.
