A total of 14 new cars secured the maximum five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests.
The independent organization gave… excellent to FIAT 500L, Ford Fiesta, Ford Kuga, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mercedes A-Class, Mitsubishi Outlander, Opel Mokka, Seat Leon, Seat Toledo, Skoda Rapid, Subaru Forester, Range Rover, Volvo V60 Plug- In Hybrid and Volkswagen Golf.
One model in particular, the Dacia Lodgy, did not fare as well, securing just three stars.
Despite the extra weight from the hybrid system, the V60 Plug-In Hybrid performed exceptionally well, confirming the importance Volvo places on passive safety.
The Swedish hybrid station wagon scored 100% in safety systems, 93% in passenger protection, 83% in child protection and 65% in pedestrian protection.
This is the top crash test performance of a plug-in hybrid car.
