The car industry Honda announced today (16.4.2025) that it was transferred from Japan to USA The production of the Civic model, which exports is now subject to additional 25%US duties.
This announcement was made while Japan’s Minister of Finance, Rosei Akazawa, is launching negotiations in the US today in an effort to find a compromise for customs duties.
“We will transfer the production (of this model) to the United States”, to the Honda plant in Indiana, and “production will stop (at the Saitama plant in Japan) around June or July,” a group spokesman told the French agency.
“The motivation for this decision is not only one, it is based on the company’s policy since its establishment to produce vehicles where demand is strong,” the spokesman insisted, refusing to attribute this change to the tariff attack.
In total, Honda produced just more than a million vehicles in its 12 plants in the United States last year. However, it exported to the US 5,379 vehicles from Japan, including the hybrid Civic.
