Honda: New CVT transmission

Honda has introduced a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) for its mid-range cars. This is to improve driving performance combined with fuel economy. The new CVT is the latest addition to Earth Dreams Technology’s line of revolutionary next-generation technologies. It was also announced that the new Step WGN and Step WGN Spada will be the first cars to be equipped with it and will offer best-in-class fuel economy.

Aiming to improve consumption, the new CVT is compatible with an idle stop system, while using a high-efficiency electric oil pump. G-Design Shift, a new, coordinated gear selection, throttle and hydraulics control system, responds instantly to driver commands, maintains strong and smooth acceleration and contributes to a sporty driving feel.

Thanks to this combination of technologies, in a comparative test of vehicles in the same class, the new CVT offers 5% better fuel economy than a conventional CVT and 10% better than a 5-speed automatic.
