New sculpture fragments, a trunk of a second statuefragments of an idol, as well as a large number of lamps from the 5th c. A.D. found under the Herodiusat the junction of Erechtheiou and N. Kallisperi, where natural gas projects started earlier.
After the headless statue possibly of Hermes, found in Herodion at the beginning of the week, the authorities found inside a rectangular brick structure these new wonder wides.
These are fragments of sculptures, upper and lower limbs, which are probably related to the statue of Hermes that has already been recovered, a torso of a 2nd life-size statue also of male form which was placed on the right, fragments of a figurine, as well as a large number of lamps of the 5th century A.D.
All the treasures that have already been recovered from the site have been transferred to the conservation laboratories of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Athens, where their conservation and restoration work will soon begin.
The research will exhaust any possibility of locating other finds, as well as the investigation of the area where the finds dating from the 5th century were found. A.D.
It is obvious that this unique find, which sheds light on one of the most interesting chapters of history, – that of the end of antiquity -, requires the diligence and undivided work of the scientific staff of the Ephoria, in order to complete it as much as possible faster the research and restoration of the whole.
