“The Safe Regulation secures the national interest and guarantees Greek positions,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Tasos Hatzivasiliou, speaking to SKAI on Wednesday morning.
As he pointed out, this is not a permanent process but, “a program that will last for the next four years, as an EU’s main tool to support European defense.” He then added that Greece, through the coordinated efforts of Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, assisted by the Deputy Minister, Alexandra Papadopoulou, succeeded in the SAFE regulation to incorporate the principle of unanimity for each EU agreement.
Referring to Casus Belli from Turkey, the Deputy Minister stressed: “Having a Casus Belli country against EU member state is incompatible with its participation in European defense. Casus Belli has been there for 30 years – it is the goal of all Greek governments to remove it. ” Commenting on a report by PASOK’s president, he noted: “I wonder why PASOK, who ruled for so many years, failed to remove Casus Belli if he considers it so easy.”

The deputy minister emphasized that the strategic autonomy of the European Union was a position highlighted by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and that it is now a key European defense pillar.
Concluding, Mr Hadjivasiliou noted: “Greece has a role and reason in every agreement that the EU wants to conclude with a third country. The government has clarified its position and has secured it in the texts. “
