The Deputy Minister referred to the maritime spatial planning (MSS) presented by Greece within the European Union, noting that “it reflects the ultimate limits of the potential Greek EEZ on the basis of international law”. As she pointed out, “Greece has the willingness to discuss with its neighbors, including Turkey, about the only difference we have: the demarcation of EEZ and continental shelf.”
Mr Hatzivasiliou noted that the HSF is part of the broader context of European obligations. “Greek positions are also being held European, as marine spatial planning is now part of European politics. Regarding Turkey’s stance, the Deputy Minister stressed that “any map submission to the UN will be a repetition of the imprinting of its well -known positions. As is well known, our positions, which are based on international law. “
Finally, Mr. Hadjivasiliou reiterated that “despite our disagreements, the more we talk to Turkey, the better and useful it is.” He even said that “if a common place is found, this is for the benefit of all.
