The Harvard And the University of Toronto presented an emergency plan that would allow selected- foreign- postgraduate students of the American Foundation to continue their studies in Canada if they cannot return to the USA because of the restrictions on their student visa.
This is the first international security strategy for students announced after the US Department of Homeland Security removed the right to register foreign students last month. A federal judge then blocked the government ruling.
If there are ultimately restrictions on a visas, students of the Harvard Government School of Governance will be able to continue their studies at the International Affairs and Policy School of the University of Toronto through a student visitors program.
The rectors of the two university institutions said the program would combine lessons taught in the two schools.
The plan was announced to reassure students. However, it will only apply if there is enough demand by those who cannot enter the US due to restrictions.
“With these emergency plans, the Harvard -Kennedy School will be able to continue to provide world -class training to all our students, even if they cannot come to campus this year,” Rector Jeremy Weinstein said.
The program will be available to foreign students who have already completed a year at Harvard.
In the last five years, more than half of Kennedy’s school (52%) were foreigners. 739 students from 92 countries attend the school.
