Haris Doukas: “The new Code is a great and modern reform in self -government”

At risk of degeneration and bureaucratic processing, the procedures for the new Code of Local Government are being led, an institutional intervention that will judge the fate of municipalities for many years.

This was found at a meeting of 100 mayors and top executives (elected to KEDE and regional associations), members of the Local Government NOW, led by the Mayor of Athens Harry Duke.

Top issues such as finances, municipal responsibilities and significant reforms that will make decentralization are dealt with by the government – with the tolerance of the majority of KEDE – with the logic of the beaten years, which make the self -governing a poor relative of the Central Administration and the Central Administration.

Significant unanimous decisions of the municipalities are at risk of staying once again, with a tobacco screening to adopt by the government of secondary importance, mainly legal character.

This image is reinforced by the arbitrary exclusion of representatives of the Local Government NOW by the official Code Processing Committees.

Harris Doukas stressed during the debate that “the line will not accept any proposals that will be short of or violates unanimous KEDE conference decisions. The self -government needs a new, modern, reformist wave, with changes that will make municipalities capable of intervening and intervening and intervening in of energy ”.
