OR PPC received the approval of environmental conditions for one of the large pumping projects promoting in its area Western Macedonia.
Specifically, the RIS has given its permission for the pumping unit to be installed in the PPC South Field mine at the Lignite Center of Western Macedonia in Kozani.
The project will consist of two water reservoirs, one tall and one low. The logic is that during the excess of energy, the water will be stored upon and in the time of demand, it will allow it to flow by moving generators and producing quantities of electricity.
The interconnection of the new production station with the ADMIE network will be through the St. Demetrios Power Station.
It should be noted that the great advantage of pumping is that it provides long -term energy storage, as opposed to batteries that are currently limited to two or at most four hours.
In the case of the PPC project, time reaches eight hours in a power of 217 MW, or 14.5 hours in force 206 MW, thereby offering a valuable solution for the system.
As is well known, PPC has included other corresponding investments in its large investment plan presented earlier this year.
There is also the pumping unit in the heart mine with a 148 MW power, which is expected to begin in the coming years. Two more major works are being promoted to Megalopolis and Veria with 181 and 475 MW respectively.
