The Minister of National Defense is going to make a recommendation to KYSEA
The acquisition of a fourth frigate Belh@Rra is expected to be recommended at the KYSEA meeting by National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, as reported by reporters during the visit of his French counterpart to Athens Sebastian Lekorni.
The French defense minister met with Nikos Dendia, where a contract was signed for the purchase of 16 Exocet missiles. The two ministers visited the French frigate “ALSACE” in Piraeus and are expected to go to Salamis shipyards. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also met earlier with the Minister of Armed Forces of France at Maximus Palace. During his meeting, the Greek -French defense cooperation and the prospects of further support, as well as the latest developments in the European Defense and the European Defense Industry, were discussed, following the presentation by the European Commission of the Rearm Europe program.
In this context, they exchanged views on strengthening European collective defense and European strategic autonomy, as well as regional and international developments. Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that the EU’s cooperation with third countries in the field of defense cannot be opposed to the strategic interests of the EU and European foreign policy decisions and defense, stressing that the security interests of all EU Member States must be taken into account.
